My Life as an Eating Psychology Coach: Brenda Bliss

What made you want to become an Eating Psychology Coach?

I have always been interested in people, the way they think and act. I wanted to combine my nursing career with my coaching. I want to make a difference in people’s lives.

What do you love about being an Eating Psychology Coach?

I love being an Eating Psychology coach because I can make a difference in people’s lives as they do mine.

What does your practice look like?

I am a hospital based nurse on a mother baby unit, I have combined both careers. This allows me to I have much greater insight into my patient’s health and wellness. I also have a private practice for my coaching, in which I am available for in person or Skype sessions. I try to make it as convenient for my clients as possible, we all have busy lives.

How did your education at the Institute prepare you to work successfully with clients?

My training at the Institute prepared me on a personal and professional level. On the personal level, I have struggled with eating issues my whole life, I thought that I had to be at a perfect weight/perfect person, in order to help people. What I have learned is that it is a journey, one that is perfect in itself. We all struggle in some way, this program has taught me self-acceptance and that is a gift in itself. Professionally, it gave me much more insight into the health of my patients increasing my assessment skills and allowing me to relate on a much deeper level.

What was your favorite aspect of the Training?

My favorite part of the program are the downloadable audios, I drive a lot and was able to listen and learn while I drove. I also liked the tests!

How has being an Eating Psychology Coach impacted you personally?

The program has impacted my personal life in a huge capacity. I have always been very hard on myself, my self image, what I ate. The program has allowed me to take the pressure off, to explore who I am and what type of eater. Instead of holding onto to what I had been programmed to believe by my old tapes and the media. It has taught me self acceptance.
Couldn’t say right away, but it must have. Everything we experience in life changes us. We live, we learn.

What do you see for yourself in your future as an Eating Psychology Coach – where is your work evolving towards?

I am hoping that I can take my coaching and nursing profession to a new level, one of holistic/preventative care rather than crisis management that is our health system today. I have continued to build on my knowledge base, and it is my goal to continue combining my coaching with my nursing background.

Why Would You Recommend the Training to Others?

I would definitely recommend this program to anyone struggling with their own weight issues and/or wanting to help others with theirs. I believe that the two are a beautiful combination and it is wonderful to be able to have a deep discussion with someone and connect on a heart level.
