2020 was a big year for games.
2020 is nearly over, and as we’ve done every year, we brought you a round-up of all the video game release dates in one place. So many games originally shooting for 2019 got pushed back to 2020, to say nothing of the many other heavy-hitters that actually came out, and the few that got delayed further into 2021.
Whether for launch disasters or the introduction of the next generation of consoles, 2020 has certainly been one to remember.
January
2020 kicked things off with a healthy release schedule in January. Capcom was once again the first to strike with the Iceborne’s PC launch. If Monster Hunter was not your thing, you may have been tempted by Warcraft 3: Reforged, Journey to the Savage Planet, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, or the Re Mind DLC for Kingdom Hearts 3.
February
February started off slow with Yakuza 5 Remastered, and Zombie Army 4. Things ramped up towards the end with Romance of The Three Kingdoms 14, the console release of Two Point Hospital, and One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows.
March
In what’s quickly becoming known as early October, March this year was well and truly stacked. Ori and the Will of the Wisps opened things up in the first few days, before Nioh 2, Doom Eternal, Half-Life: Alyx, and Persona 5 Royal took over. March also saw the surprise release of Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered on PS4, and the Early Access launch of Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord.
April
The onslaught continued in April, which was vying to feature an even bigger volume of highly-anticipated games. April saw the release of Resident Evil 3, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Gears Tactics, Trials of Mana and more. We also got a surprise new XCOM game in Chimera Squad.
May
May looked alright before, but multiple high-profile delays have left us with a decent, if not amazing line-up. We still have Maneater, and The Wonderful 101: Remastered to look forward to.
June
The worldwide release of Valorant kicked June off, before the long-awaited Command & Conquer remaster dropped a couple of days later. June was also the release month for The Last of Us Part 2 – arguably its biggest game. Desperados 3 and the Switch port of The Outer Worlds have, too, done the business in June.
July
July brought us yet another PS4 exclusive in Ghost of Tsushima. Though it was the biggest game of the month, we’d be remiss to ignore the PC release of Death Stranding, the Trackmania remake, F1 2020 and the Early Access launch of Obsidian’s Grounded.
August
Summer continued to rage on in August as we got closer to the very busy late-2020 period. During the month, we had Wasteland 3, A Total War Saga: Troy, the PC release of Horizon Zero Dawn, and Fast & Furious: Crossroads to keep us entertained.
September
September was right on the edge of big game season. It may not have been as busy as the two months that followed it, but we still found plenty to look forward to. Things kicked off with Crusader Kings 3, Marvel’s Avengers and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, before Mafia: Definitive Edition rounded out the month.
October
One of the busiest months of every year also promises some exciting releases in 2020. We kick things off with Star Wars: Squadrons, and Crash 4, just a few days before Age of Empires 3 DE and FIFA 21 come out. Later on in October, Watch Dogs: Legion finally releases, followed by the next chapter in the The Dark Pictures anthology.
November
November is the launch month of the new consoles. When you’re not looking to spend hundreds of dollars on new plastic boxes, you’ll have plenty of games to look forward to during the month, such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Black Ops Cold War, that Destiny 2 expansion and many more.
December
That’s it, folks. You made it to the last month of 2020! The ever-elusive Cyberpunk 2077 is now December’s biggest game, after it suffered another delay. Beyond that, you can also look forward to Immortals Fenyx Rising, Twin Mirror, Empire of Sin, and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2..
