Keeping good oral hygiene at a young age is especially important because the teeth have not yet fully developed. The enamel has not completely covered the tooth or become thicker yet. It is therefore essential for parents to make sure their children brush their teeth twice every day, especially after meals when plaque starts forming on the mouth's surface again. Teeth have porous layers under the enamel and this is where tooth decay starts. It spreads further as the acid dissolves minerals from the teeth to leave small holes. These can lead to pain, swelling, and other problems if left untreated.
